Notes for John Finley
Is mentioned in a Retour as having, in 1463, one-sixth portion of Combryeland at Pentecoast, Forfashire, and he figures in different leases up to 1497. He died prior to 1507, having married Joneta Roger, who, as widow and relict of John Finley, is described on March 9, 1507, as obtaining a lease of a portion of the lands of Downy, in the Barony of Glenisla. She was the daughter of William Roger, a renter of Cupar Grange, who, in 1457, had a lease of one-twelfth portion for seven years, and the lease was renewed, in 1468, by his son, William Roger, Jr., who died in 1508. His son, William Roger III, married Marjorie Blair, daughter of William Blair, Bailiff of Cupar Angus. On May 1, 1542, he obtained from Abbott Donald Campbell a life lease of that portion of land lessed by his father and by his grandfather. William Roger III appears as Sheriff Deputy on April 23, 1544.
