OBITUARY: From the Long Prairie Leader, Thursday, December 29, 1927: Death of Mrs. Werner. Dec. 22--Mrs. Elizabeth Werner died at her home in Staples on Saturday, December 11, after an illness lingering on for the past two years. She was an old resident of Staples and well known throughout the community. She was born in New York state in the year of 1854 and at the time of her death was past seventy-three years old. She was married in 1877 to D.W. Zones. Five sons and one daughter were born to this union, all of whom survive. In 1890 occurred the death of Mr. Zones. In 1893 she was married to Louis Chouinard and two sons were born to this union, both of whom survive. In 1916 Mrs. Chouinard was married to Solomon Werner, of Moran, who passed away about eight years ago. Funeral services were held on Monday, December 12, at the Methodist Episcopal church at 2 o'clock. The services were conducted by J.O. Peet, with the assistance of Rev. H. W. Mitchell, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment was in Evergreen Hill cemetery. The following children survive Mrs. Werner: Mrs. Carrie Wheaton of Glendive, Montana; George, Arthur and Judd Zones, of Staples; Edmond Zones of Buffalo, New York; John Zones of Douglas, Washington; Stephen Chouinard of Glendive, Montana; and Leo Chouinard, of Staples. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Carrie Jacobs of Motley, two brothers, Orin Brown, of Dinsmore, California, and Charles Brown, of Minneapolis.
OBITUARY: Staples World, Staples, Todd County, MN, 15 Dec 1927: Mrs. Elizabeth Werner Dies After Two Years Illness/Leaves Eight Children, One Sister and Two Brothers./Mrs. Elvira Elizabeth Brown was born in the state of New York, May 28, 1854 and died at her home in Staples, Sunday, December 11, 1927. In the year 1877 she was united in marriage to D.W. Zones to which union there was born 6 children, 1 girl and 5 boys, all of whom are living. Mr. Zones died in 1890. In the year of 1893 she was married to Louis Chouinard, and this union was blessed with two sons. In 1916, Mrs. Schouinard married Solomon Werner, who preceded her in death by 8 years./Mrs. Werner's children, numbering 8, were all present except two at her bedside when death came. She had been a patient sufferer for the past two years, being bedridden several months./The following children survive: Mrs. Carrie Wheaton, of Glendive, Montana; Arthur Zones, of Staples; Jud Zones, of Staples; Edmond Zones, of Buffalo, N. Y.; George Zones, of Staples; John W. Zones, of Douglas, Wash.; C. Schouinard, of Glendive, Montana; Leo Schouinard, of Staples, besides 2 grand children and 1 great grand child. She leaves 1 sister, Mrs. Carrie Jacobs, of Motley, and 2 brothers, Charles Brown, of Minneapolis and Oren Brown, of Dunsmore, Calif./Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, officiated by J. O. Peet, who was assisted by Rev. H.W. Mitchell. The orders of the Women's Relief Corps, Rebecca Lodge and Legion Auxiliary attended the services in honor of their departed member. Interment was made in Evergreen Hill Cemetery.
