Notes for Royal Neal Thornton
Royal Neal Thornton
Wenatchee
Royal Neal Thornton, 86, of Wenatchee, died at Colonial Vista Care in Wenatchee on July 31, 2002.
He was born Sept. 4, 1915, at Monitor to Roy C. and Theo H. (Patterson) Thornton. He attended school for several years at Sunnyslope; he then moved with his family to Tonasket in 1925, where he graduated from Tonasket High School and continued his education for several years at Washington State University. He left college to return home and help operate the family orchards and warehouse complex known as Happy Valley Ranch. In 1962, he moved to Wenatchee, where he worked for Northern Fruit Company until 1990. He subsequently worked for Leavenworth Fruit Company for several seasons.
In 1941, he married Nora Breshears. To that union were born four sons, who survive him with their wives: David (Lynn) of Yakima, Richard (Chang) of Renton, Gary (Jody) of Vancouver, WA, Steve (Martha) of Omak; and five grandchildren, Ben, Roger, Diane, Annalee, and Travis. In 1964, he married Audrey Walley, who survives him at home, and their two sons, Chad (James) of Seattle, and Chris, also of the home.
Also surviving are his brother, Floyd of Ellisforde, sisters Carol and Edith of Tonasket, and Lu Weaver of Brewster, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dr. Dell Thornton, Republic, and Charlie Thornton; and two sisters, Ardis Thornton, Tonasket, and Vera Catherine Thornton.
He was a member of the World Wide Body of Nondenominational Christians. Neal loved his family, friends, and the people he worked with. He was an avid sports fan and also loved nature: feeding quail, working in his vegetable garden, and watching storms across the Valley.
He always had at least one dog, usually two, and a couple of cats trailing him around the yard. His sweet smile and gentle spirit will be greatly missed. He was simply a good person.
By his request, there will be no service.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Wenatchee Humane Society or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Betts Funeral Home in Wenatchee. 1171
