Walter Doubek, 82, of rural Anamoose, ND died on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the St. Aloisius Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24 at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Anamoose.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey, ND.
Walter was born on May 8, 1929 on the family homestead northeast of Anamoose, ND. He was the son of John and Emma (Bendick) Doubek. He attended the White Township School in Pierce County and helped out on the family farm. He also worked for area farmers. Walter married Esther Grochow on November 9, 1948 in Anamoose. To this union three sons were born. Walter and Esther lived on the Doubek home place where they farmed and raised cattle. Walter also worked for the Pierce County ASCS office and as a Federal Crop Insurance Adjustor. He also served as the White Township Supervisor. Walter was known for his exceptional gardening skills and the bountiful harvest he shared with family and friends. He also loved to play pinochle and visit. These traits were helpful when he became a Senior Companion with his wife and they would visit and help out those in need of company. He and Esther enjoyed traveling to San Diego where they spent the winter months for many years. They would have celebrated 63 years of marriage in November. Walter was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder and Usher.
Walter is survived by his wife, Esther of Anamoose; sons, Bruce (Flor) Doubek of San Diego, CA, Lyle (Doris) Doubek of Minot, Joel (Tammy) Doubek of Anamoose; seven grandchildren, Shelly (Chris) Leroux, Tasha (Sean) Alderson, Jessie Doubek, Josh Doubek, Cori Doubek, Justin Doubek, Kari Doubek; two great-grandchildren, Riann and Deizel Alderson; two step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Dockter of Anamoose and Alice Carwile of Louisville, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Willie, John and Frank and a sister, Emily Doubek.
