Notes for Robert Finley
Although Robert Finley was born in Inchervie, Fife, Scotland, records show that he sold his lands there to his cousin Thomas Finley, about 1678, or the date on which he went to Ireland. He first settled in Hamilton Bann, and later went to the Parish of Mullaghabrae, where, in 1680, he married Margaret Lauder. In Irish Deeds, Book 262, page 42, is found: "Admor of the land and goods of Robert Finley, of Parish of Mullaghabrae, County Armagh, Ireland, John Finley, lawful son of said deceased Robert Finley, July 20, 1712, for the sole use of said Michael, Robert, Samuel, Archibald, and John Finley, children of said deceased." On page 630 of the same book is found the following:"A memorial of deeds of lease and release, dated 16-17 of Jan. 1732, Robert, Samuel, and John Finley, of the Parish of Mullaghabrae, Armagh, of the one part, and Michael Finley, of the said Parish, of the other part, reciting that the said Robert, Samuel and John, in consideration of Pounds 50, did convey to the said Michael, land and buildings in the said parish and county, bounded on the south by a house, then in possession of said Michael, to hold during the lives of the said Robert, Samuel, and John, with proviso for redemption." The baptismal records of Robert Finley's children are inscribed in the Parish Register in Mullaghabrac, Armagh, Ireland
