He was a laborer in a vegetable packing shed in 1939 with an income of $550 for the year. Second grade was the highest grade completed in school. His wife, Delfina reports that they were living in the same house in 1935. She reports they were both born in Texas.1543

ELSA - Espiridion Guzman Sr., 79, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at his home in Elsa. He was born March 31, 1919, in Los Indios, Texas, and had been a resident of Elsa since 1928. He and his wife had owned Guzman Flower Shop in Elsa. Survivors include his wife, Delfina L. Guzman of Elsa; a son, Espiridion (Belen) Guzman Jr. of La Blanca; five daughters, Elvira Guzman and Ernestina (Fidel) Sandoval, both of Elsa. Romana O. (Armando) Ayala of Donna, and Esther (Erasmo) Torres and Elia (Juan M.) Gonzalez, both of Weslaco; two brothers, Enrique Guzman of Elsa and Eliseo Guzman of East Chicago, Ind.; three sisters, Eduvijes Ochoa and Emilia Castaneda, both of Elsa, and Herlinda Rojas of Merrillville, Wash.; 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Armando E. Ayala Jr.; and three brothers, Ernesto Guzman, Eriberto Guzman and Ezequiel Guzman. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today, Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Monday, May 4, 1998, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elsa. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco. Pallbearers will be Jaime X. Ayala, Raul Luna Jr., Eramso E. Torres, Johnny Gonzalez, Espiridion Guzman Ill, and Rene Guzman. Hawkins Funeral Home of Weslaco is in charge of arrangements.
