Charlotte was born on September 12, 1916 at the Simmons home on the west side of Valier. She attended school in Valier and after graduation attended Montana Normal College in Dillon, Montana. She first taught school in the Munyon School near Williams and later in Stanford, Montana. She married William Calkins on June 14, 1939. They have two children, twins, who were born on March 4, 1943, in Hawthorne, California. Charlotte has lived in California for a number of years and recently retired from a successful teaching career.
