Edgar H. ‘Ed’ Hoffman
WATERVILLE -- Edgar H. “Ed” Hoffman, 67, mayor of Waterville and a former Ketchikan businessman, died in Central Washington Hospital, Tuesday evening, April 17, 1990.
He was born in Acme on July 28, 1922, to Angus and Mae (Turkington) Hoffman. He attended schools at Acme and graduated from Mount Baker High School at Deming.
He worked in the logging industry in the Bellingham area until moving to Ketchikan in 1951. He joined the firm of Service Electric Co. as a partner. Later he became manager of the Ketchikan branch of the West Coast Grocery Co., retiring in 1979.
He married Grace Bortz on June 4, 1967, at Waterville and they maintained a home in Waterville while living in Alaska, and moved back in February of 1980. He was elected mayor of Waterville in November 1987.
Mr. Hoffman had served both the Ketchikan and Waterville Lions Clubs as president and was a Key member. In Alaska, he coached city league basketball.
Survivors include his wife, at home; one son, Dale Bortz of Valdez; one sister, Mrs. Jack (Wilma) Tibbles of Ketchikan; and two grandchildren.
Waterville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
EDGAR H. “ED” HOFFMAN -- A funeral service for Edgar H. “Ed” Hoffman, 67, a long-time resident and currect mayor of Waterville, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, in the Waterville United Lutheran Church. Reverend Woody Allabough will officiate. The concluding service and burial will be in the Waterville Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Waterville Ambulance Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Waterville Funeral Home.
