Obituary notes for Richard Dennis Zones
Richard Dennis Zones, 57 years old, a lifetime resident of Waterville, WA, passed away September 29, 2010, at Central Washington Hospital from complications of a stroke. Richard was born September 16, 1953, in Wenatchee, WA to Thomas and Alice Zones. In his childhood, Richard was very active in Cub Scouts. He progressed through the levels and eventually earned his Eagle Scout award. While he was a Boy Scout, he traveled to the 13th Annual World Boy Scout Jamboree in Japan. He also attended the last Camporama at Fort Okanogan before it was flooded. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1971, and attended WSU for one year, after being awarded the Schlenz Scholarship to play football. He returned home, where he worked for the Waterville School District as a Janitor. After his father passed away in 1983, Richard began working for the family farm. Richard volunteered for many community activities, earning him a Citizen of the Year award. He was involved in the Waterville Fire Department for over 40 years, and he held the position of the Assistant Chief. Richard had a love for cooking and helped cook for many events in the Waterville area. Richard always had a smile on his face and a helping hand for whomever needed it. He had a great sense of humor and he kept that with him until the end.
He is survived by his son, Brandon (Amber) Zones of Waterville; daughter, Danielle (Brad) Kesterson of Warner Robins, GA; and his youngest son, Blane Zones of Gig Harbor, WA; his grandchildren, Alyssa, Harlie, Steven, Rebecca, Richard, Alex and Mason; his mother, Alice Zones of Waterville; sister, Shirley (Larry) Auvil of Orondo; brother, Michael Zones of Waterville; and niece, Kalee Auvil. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas, on September 28, 1983.
A Viewing will be held at the Waterville Funeral Home on Monday, October 4, 2010, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the Waterville Federated Church.
