WATERVILLE -- Thomas C. “Tom” Zones, 61, Waterville, a lifetime Douglas County resident, died in Central Washington Hospital on Wednesday evening after an extended illness.
Born Nov. 27, 1921, at Douglas he attended Douglas school and graduated from Waterville High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army. From 1945 until 1958 he worked at Reid Machine Shop in Waterville and since 1957 had farmed at Waterville.
On July 11, 1951, he married Alice Sharar at Waterville.
Mr. Zones was a member of Waterville Odd Fellow Lodge; Waterville Veterans of Foreign Wars; and Waterville Grange No. 835. He had been active in Boy Scouts of America serving as scoutmaster and in many areas of scouting.
Survivors include his wife, at home; two sons, Richard and Michael Zones, and a daughter, Shirley Zones, all of Waterville; his mother, Mrs. Anabel Zones, two brothers, John and Steve Zones, and a sister, Mrs. Ed (Grace) Hoffman, all of Waterville; and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother and two sisters.
Waterville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Waterville Lutheran Church, Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Rev. William W. Williams III will officiate. The casket will remain closed in the church. Friends who wish may call at the Waterville Funeral Home for visitation prior to services. Memorials in his name are suggested to the Waterville Ambulance Fund or to the American Cancer Society. Concluding services and interment will follow in the Waterville Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Waterville Funeral Home.
