Notes for Jan Evangelista Dušek
Jan Dušek (1845-1919) donated the alterpiece to Horak’s Chapel and became a benefactor of the town of Dolní Dobrouč. He studied teaching, but did not finish his studies. Due to a lack of teachers in 1872, he was admitted as a teacher at the school and remained there until 1896. Since he taught in the surrounding Eagle Mountains (Orlických horách) he became nicknamed “Horák” (hillman). Other members of Bernard’s family and also the chapel, therefore became nicknamed Horák as well. One day, Jan was leaving a local bakery and fell in the doorway. He died of a stroke.
