Julius Hartl came to this country from Michelsdorf, Austria.  He married Amelia Poline who also came from Michelsdorf.  They were married in Casselton in 1887 and took a homestead in Clifton Township the same year and continued to live there until they retired to the city of Alice.
Amelia came to this country all alone when she was 14, to Casselton and did housework for the parents of former Governor William Langer.  
They raised five boys and six girls. Frank, Christina, Mary, Joseph, Albina, Hattie, Selma, Martha, Julius, Bernard, and Gustave.
Frank, Selma, Joseph, Christina, and Albina are deceased.  Mary (Mrs. Joseph Schmidt) lives in Enderlin; Mrs. Martha Salzwedel, Sacramento, CA; Bernard, Tracyton, CA; Julius and Gustave, Alice.  Hattie lives in Chicago.  
Julius died in 1948.  Amelia died 1945.1238
