Notes for Albert Malcome Walley
The roots of the Walley family are in Ireland, but Fredrick and Sarah Neil Walley immigrated to Canada in the early 1800’s. Albert Malcome Walley, was born at Sherbrooke in the Province of Quebec on March 5, 1854. Albert joined the Mounties on June 5, 1887 at Toronto, and after a brief service there, immigrated to the United States. Albert first married a quarter-blood Indian woman, and it is believed but not confirmed, that this wife and family were almost wiped out by small pox while they were living in the Fort Benton area. One child, Annie, survived, and later became Mrs. Charlie Powell. Many of her descendants are now living at Babb, Montana.
Albert later married Evelena Rizzi, an immigrant who had been born at Silva Plana, Switzerland. She had brothers and sisters who had come to the United States, and urged her to come also. She worked for awhile at the MacKnight Hotel in Dupuyer before marrying Albert. The family lived there and later, west of Bynum, before moving to Choteau. Records show that Albert Walley became a citizen of the United States at Fort Benton, Choteau County, on May 3, 1904.
