Notes for Pvt. Gary Robert Dusek
Gary Robert Dusek, of Walla Walla, Washington, died at the V.A. Hospital in Seattle on Tuesday, April 13, 1999, after a six month battle with cancer. He was 45 years old.
He was born November 20, 1953, to Robert and Eleanore Delzer Dusek in Harvey, North Dakota. He grew up in Aylmer, North Dakota, and attended first through sixth grades at White Township School. He moved with his family to New Rockford, North Dakota, in 1965, where he attended seventh through tenth grades. In 1969, the family moved to Whitefish, Montana, where he attended his junior year of high school. He worked on a ranch east of the mountains from 1970 until he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1972. He was later discharged because of medical problems under honorable conditions and then returned to Whitefish. He married Twyla Jensen of Kalispell, Montana, in 1972. A son, Shawn Gary, was born to this union. They were later divorced. He moved to Walla Walla in 1975. He married Carolyn Handy in 1990, and they were later divorced. He worked at many jobs, including for Burlington Northern Railroad, farming, irrigation and landscaping, tree spraying and roofing. He loved the outdoors and looked forward to fishing and hunting trips.
Survivors include his son Shawn, of Kennewick, Washington and two grandchildren, Jesshua and Stephanie; his mother, Eleanore Dusek of Whitefish; a brother, Darrel Dusek of Libby, Montana; four sisters, Charlotte Henne of Aurora, Illinois, Dianna Neugebauer of Moorcroft, Wyoming, Beverly Dusek of Whitefish and Penny Black of Holland, Ohio; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dusek, in 1997.
